CINEMA VERITE may be considered a new genera: a drama shot in semi-documentary style. It is a look behind the scenes of the 1970’s documentary series “An American Family,” the first reality TV series. It followed the upper-middle-class Loud family of Santa Barbara. Producer (James Gandolfini) talks married couple Bill (Tim Robbins) and Pat (Diane Lane) Loud into allowing cameras film their lives for an unprecedentedly close look at the perfect American family. The real drama begins when the Louds are forced to grapple with how to handle the fact that their lives have changed now that cameras entered. Actual clips from the original series is combined seamlessly into the film.
